The wise virgins who were prepared with their lamps to meet their bridegroom are also willing to sacrifice themselves for the bridegroom. The oil in their lamp is the blood that runs through their veins, ready to spill when needed for the sake of the bridegroom. The bridegroom is their purpose for living. The bridegroom is Jesus, the Lamb of God, whose blood was spilled for us. He fills our cup at every Mass. This is the wine which awaits us in the Kingdom of God which only until then will our savior Jesus drink with us, his wise virgins.
