It’s a few minutes past midnight, Christmas Day 2007! It’s the birthday of Jesus. Thank God for HIs only begotten Son born of the Virgin Mary. God the Father fathered Jesus, God’s Son, conceived of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is truly God, the second person of the Blessed Trinity. Jesus was born in a manger, this is why Christmas is not about materialism and giving expensive gifts. Christmas is spiritual and giving more intangible gifts that touch the soul. Christ the anointed One is the word on Christmas. On HIs birthday, one of the three wise men gave Him myrrh. Myrrh must’ve been the source of oil used for sacred rites and Jesus is the reason for the rites. Baptismal rite, confirmation rite are examples of Catholic rites where oil is used to anoint the candidates. Both signify birth and rebirth into the church. Let’s pray for spiritual anoinment this Christmas Day and be reminded of our birth, our dying and our rebirth into new life in the spirit.
